The DINAH Mission would like to thank all of the attendees of the Black Journaling Workshop! This event took place last week Friday, May 20th, 2022 at the Temple KA! It was impactful and moving to see beautiful and empowering women from the community come together to reflect and write. In like manner, the Temple KA graciously facilitated us with their serene space in order to achieve our purpose. In addition, the multitalented and gifted artesian and spoken word artist Why’z Panthera, guided us through the journaling journey.
The evening began with Why’z Panthera’s thorough explanation of the art of journaling. Why’z then performed her two pieces called “Ma Voix” and “Proud Misfit”. The experience of listening to inspired and potent words left some of us in tears. We then shared collectively as a group as we spoke about our comfort levels when it comes to journaling. Afterward, we all individually found a quiet space to reflect and write. With more tears and more reflection, we eventually returned to share our own writings as a group. It was an intimate moment that left each attendee in deep thoughts and reflection. Leaving the grounds at the end of the evening was difficult for everyone due to the genuine connections built. The contagiously harmonious and peaceful atmosphere of the Temple KA also brought a soothing effect to the attendees.
These beautiful connections are what DINAH Mission seeks to establish. We strive to continue our efforts to create safe spaces for women and girls to connect. We are grateful for this opportunity to build strong relationships within our community as we anticipate our upcoming event!
